Fuji X100T, London Eye, London skyline, monochrome

I hadn’t been on the London Eye for at least decade, maybe longer; possibly hadn’t even thought of going on it after a flurry of visits after it opened. Some friends had some kind of magic tourist pass and kindly brought us along as guests on just the right kind of day for it: blue skies, not much visible smog. I wish I had some shots from the last time I went on it, though; some compare-and-contrast of the skyline would be fascinating.

A walk west from the Anchor & Hope pub in Charlton, looking over to Silvertown, past Durham Wharf, along past the aggregates wharves, peering through to the new Greenwich peninsula developments, then on to Greenwich Yacht Club.

Looking north west over the tree tops of Oxleas Wood.

Shot on my Fuji X100T; I must get back up there with a long lens soon.

The former Mersey Ferry MV Royal Iris, moored on the Thames next to Second Floor Studios & Arts on the Woolwich/Charlton borders. There’s a group hoping to ‘Save the Royal Iris‘ and return her to the Mersey; I wish them luck, but it’s difficult to be optimistic looking at her current state.

A Boxing Day trip on the Tanfield Railway, County Durham.

Half shot on the Nikon D7100, half on the iPhone Hipstamatic app; all in challenging, high contrast conditions. It was a lovely day to get out of the house and into the fresh air, though.

The burst of summer that came with the start of May has turned into something a bit more standard: sunshine, showers, and a stiff, cool breeze.

The last couple of days have taken me along the South Bank, and also into the odd, quiet backwater of Surrey Docks. If there’s a more dispiriting example of dockland ‘regeneration’ than that at Canada Water, I don’t want to go there. Decathlon and BHS arranged alongside, but largely ignoring, the water; their car park dominating the area; a token sculpture representing the area’s past. The coots looked happy enough, swimming in and out of the reed bed, I suppose.

Deckchairs, Brighton Beach, originally uploaded by neilclasper.

A scorching hot weekend in Brighton, 3 years ago this week. Our long, cold winter is over, but we’re not quite on the deckchairs yet this year.
