Blackheath fireworks are one of the highlights of the year in this corner of south-east London, with people streaming towards the heath from all the surrounding streets. This year’s display was particularly good, helped by drier, warmer weather than usual. Let’s hope it’s the last year in which Greenwich Council doesn’t pay its fair share of the costs. Thanks to Lewisham Council for organising it.

Very good pictures.
Thanks! It’s definitely easier to pictures like this when it doesn’t rain.
Yes, tremendous pictures. In the first one, there’s a smiley face lit up in the sky. I enjoy all your posts, Neil – as a fellow photographer I was impressed a few weeks ago by your ability to find and compose interesting features in the dull old Woolwich Road. Bravo!
Thank you for your kind words. I find there’s (almost) always something interesting in the local neighbourhood, and it’s nice when others recognise that. It would be nice to travel the world photographing exotic locations but that’s not an option for me right now, and I think it’s probably as important to document where we live – particularly as it changes so rapidly, as it is round here. Thanks for following.
I’m sure you a right – there’s no need to travel to far-flung places to make wonderful pictures. London is the most fascinating city in the world; we are so very lucky to have a wealth of visual material on our doorstep. They’re great photos – I think I’ve seen them before (possibly via Spitalfields Life). If you’re in SE London and ever want to talk photos over a coffee, let me know!
